Skating at the Eden Project

• Start Time: 12 noon
• Venue: Eden Project
• We have once again been offered a private skating session at the Eden Project at 12 noon. Entrance to Eden is free and the cost to skate is £5. Child with Downs Syndrome and one carer can skate for free. We have to commit to 100 skaters so please let me know as soon as you can using the attached form. There will be wheelchairs available and buggies can also be taken on the ice. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to take part.

Tuesday 21st February:

'Looking Up' Mid Cornwall 12pm - 2pm

A new "Looking Up" peer support group ...

• Launch of new 'Looking Up' group in St.Columb Major. Due to demand CDSSG is setting up a third monthly Looking Up session for under 5's with DS in Mid Cornwall. This initial session on 21st Feb will be held at the 'Pop Up Pottery' but from 20th March will routinely be held on the third Tuesday of the month at St Columb Major Children's Centre 12.30 - 2.00pm.
  
  Venue: The Pop-Up Pottery (10 Fore Street St Columb Major TR9 6RH).

All CDSSG members with a child with DS under 5 are welcome to attend (as per any other 'Looking Up' group), but please contact info@cdssg.org.uk to book a place. Dates of further meetings TBA ....

Wednesday 22nd February:

Time 2 Sleep Awareness Workshop

Time 9.30am- 2.30pm (lunch included)

• raising awareness of good sleep practice
• basic strategies for parents
• discussions with time to share ideas and resources.
  
  Venue: The Haven, Budehaven Community School, Valley Road, Bude, EX23 8DQ

Saturday 3rd March:

TRISOMY 21 exhibition and AGM 2pm

Please do try and attend the AGM - this is your support group and its important that you come along and have your say.

• This will take place in the Core building of the Eden project. We will have our AGM starting at 2pm and at 4.30pm there will be a light buffet and the official opening of the Cornwall Downs Syndrome Support Group Trisomy 21 exhibition. This will stay at the Eden project for a whole month giving the general public the opportunity to see the wonderful portraits of some of our children and break down some of they Myths about Downs Syndrome. The exhibition will then be moved to various locations around the county including New County Hall.
• Please complete the form in the downloadable newsletter as we will need numbers for catering. Entrance to Eden will be free for those attending the AGM and Launch
• At the AGM there will be elections to the committee for the positions of

  Chair Person
  Vice Chair Person
  Treasurer
  Secretary
  Members of the committee

Wednesday 7th March:

Behaviour Workshop During school hours

• This workshop is aimed at parents who are experiencing behaviour issues (with their child with DS) and would like to work with the Behaviour specialist from the DSA on strategies and hints.
• It would also benefit those families with younger children to learn some of the preventative strategies before behaviour problems embed. Places are limited to one parent from each family. Please contact me to book your place.

Conference for TA's, heads and SENCOS - Please give your schools a heads up for these dates

• We are working with the local authority and the Downs Syndrome Association to put on a conference for Early Years, Primary and Secondary schools who are supporting, or may support in the future children with Downs Syndrome.
• The third day is about Numicon.

Sunday 17th June:

Sponsored cycle ride - Launceston to Land's End

COME AND TAKE PART! We are again raising funds through a sponsored cycle ride - Launceston to Lands End. You can take part in many ways:-

• Cycling the whole 100 miles
• Cycling part of the route - perhapse the beginning or the end
• Being part of a tandem relay team
• Helping to put up signage on the day
• Coming down to the finish to cheer in everyone who takes part
  Helping with the refreshments stops.
  
  As the support group grows its costs are going up and we need to continue to raise funds so that we can continue to support families who have a child with Downs Syndrome in Cornwall.
