We have secured funding to take 20 families for a weekend trip to Legoland in Windsor. We are looking at travel options but however we travel we will leave on Friday afternoon, stay overnight Friday and Saturday, go to Legoland for the day and come home on the Sunday. This has been funded through a variety of ways, Merlins Magic Wand charity, Cornwall Council Short Breaks and our own funding. We can only take the immediate family but we anticipate the only cost to the families would be the cost of food and drink for the weekend (and of course the obligatory purchases of toys in Legoland).
Although we don’t have a definite date yet we need to know how many families would be interested in going. Pleaseemail Sandy with your expression of interest.
Please note because of funding arrangements we can only offer
this to families who live in Cornwall.
Sarah Bateup is running a two day conference for parents and professionals in Plymouth on 4 & 5 November at The Guildhall.

This workshop is subject to the approval of our funding
It is similar to the Time 2 sleep workshop but specifically targeted at children with Downs Syndrome.
Places are limited to 20 so please contact John by email ASAP to book a place.

Symbol UK are the leading organisation in recognising the
specific difficulties children with Downs Syndrome experience with
speech and communication. We have arranged for them to come
to Cornwall during October to carry out private assessments on children
in our group and we are hoping that each childs Speech and Language
therapist would be able to join the session to learn first hand the
techniques to support our children in their communication
needs. We can offer this to children over the age of
3years. The cost for each assessment is approx £400
but through a number of fundraising initiatives we are able to support
families in meeting some or all of this cost. You would need
to be prepared to take your child out of school for a morning or
afternoon and we will arrange the appointments in each area of the
county to minimise travel for both the therapist and the child.
After the assesement you will be given a list of targets to work on and
this can be shared with your TA’s and SALT. If you
would like more info or to discuss your child taking part please
contact Sandy on 01637 859354. Places are very limited and
will be allocated on a first come basis.
We will also be using some of this funding to deliver a training
session to speech and language therapists – make sure that
your therapist knows about it. They should contact Sue Newman
to discuss their attendance.
